Camping along the Big Piney Creek, it becomes clear that this is one of America's hidden treasures. As we're driving past the emerald water, I can't help but ask myself why this area isn't flooded with overlanders. So, here's my list of the top 3 reasons you should visit Deer, Arkansas this weekend.
EPIC Dispersed Campsites
While we were overlanding this weekend, we camped at two incredible spots right along the Big
Piney. Our first site has a sandy beach and plenty of space for multiple vehicles. This is our go to
favorite spot to camp. The next night, we stumbled upon another huge campsite right on the
water. We found a few other great sites during the day as we were riding. Downloading an app
like GAIA allows you to mark these sites easily to find them again on your next trip.
2. Carwash Falls
This is a unique stop where the runoff from the Arkansas mountains falls from these rock bluffs
and onto the vehicles lucky enough to be driving down this road. Along this route, you'll also see
creeks streaming through the forest at nearly every turn. It's pretty impossible not to stop to take
a picture every few minutes.
3. Awesome Hiking Trails!
We only had the chance to explore part of the Fort Douglas Trailhead, but we had a great time
checking out the creek, waterfall, and the interesting obstacles. This trail passes a natural bridge,
a historic chimney, and massive boulders.
Bonus: No Cell Phone Service
Of course this one could lead to some inconvenience, but for us the chance to disconnect from work and enjoy our time together made our time in Deer even more... dear to us. This is a place to rest, explore, and get away from everything.
